His first album of new material in almost 20 years
"Had I no idea that Stewart had spent the last decade or so crafting 'tribute' albums to the works of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and just about anyone your mother or grandmother loves — had his last recorded work been only, say, 1978's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" — I'd simply report that the singer still has the goods. But precisely because of that, because he hasn't really devoted much of his time to the rock 'n' roll at which he really excelled so long ago, I'm even more impressed." — Dave DiMartino, Yahoo Music, May 2013
Yahoo Music calls Time, "a very significant return to form" for Grammy-winning, two-time Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Rod Stewart. Stewart wrote most of the songs here, and the majority of them — such as the openers "She Makes Me Happy" and "Can't Stop Me Now" — are catchy, rocking pieces firmly in the tradition Stewart himself established long ago.
Time was born from a burst of inspiration from which Stewart rediscovered his voice as a songwriter and rekindled his gift for writing the honest, nerve-touching narratives that have been the cornerstone to the first three decades of his career. Since 1991, Stewart, the lyricist and melodist behind such staples as "Tonight's The Night," "You Wear It Well," "You're In My Heart," "The Killing of Georgie" and the indelible "Maggie May," had simply lost his songwriting muse. But, beginning in 2011, during the period he began working on what would become his internationally best-selling autobiography, Rod, it returned.
Joyous, rocking stuff, Time is yet another indicator that when Stewart himself takes the time to write his material, which doesn't happen very often, he's nearly always triumphant.
