Pals since the mid-1960s, Garcia and Grisman bonded over their love for traditional folk and bluegrass. The two teamed up amidst what became a gold rush of top-notch productivity and creativity for Garcia. Partnering with bassist Jim Kerwin and percussionist/fiddler Joe Craven, the pair approaches every passage with innate ease, as if either musician could finish the others sentence. The affable chemistry and soothing interplay wash over a selection of songs as notable for their diversity as the way Garcia and "Dawg" turn them into the equivalent of old friends you haven't seen in years.

The quartet delves into Celtic themes ("Two Soldiers"), jazz-grass ("Grateful Dawg"), old-world ballads ("Russian Lullaby"), and Appalachian flavors ("Walkin' Boss") with nonpareil skill and soulfulness. Garcia and Grisman's tandem picking throughout epitomize sublime. Absolutely jaw dropping reference sound quality! posted on 08/21/2015 5 Stars I picked this up on a lark since I already have the Tape Project version and that one already sounded great. I was not expecting the utter sonic revelation that the Mobile Fidelity LP set would open up. The soundstage is even more 3D and sound projects in a more realistic way. 6/5 stars.

Took A Chance ...... GLAD I Did!! posted on 07/12/2014 5 Stars Reviewer: GF I came across this unknown (to me) title in local store. I found many comments by others (here and elsewhere) with nothing but praise. Being a big Grisman fan, I added it to my "July 4th cart". Boy, this is a super quiet LP and is on it's way to becoming one of my favorite's. A very personal sounding recording with great music and sound. My only gripe (small one) is the way the two solo instrumentalists were mixed/recorded. It seemed like the placement was a bit exaggerated, creating a center stage "hole" when no vocals present. But this is easily overlooked when listening with the "heart" not the "brain". Now, if we could only get Grisman Quintet's first LP and "Old And In The Way" with Grisman/Garcia reissued !! (Maybe the "powers that be" will see my note and agree. Please!!)
