It is rare to find a band with such an extraordinary sense of communion as Half Moon Run. Half Moon Run could be from the 1960s, their interlaced vocal harmonies harkening to Paul Simon's brand of folk, or from the 1970s performing at hazy rock festivals. They could be from the 1990s when rock bands got smart; their songs complex, yet fascinating, or the shoe-gazers that expanded consciousness. It's in ambiguity that the Montreal-based band thrives; after all, their songs aren't simply songs; they're journeys.
The debut album from this Montreal-based, Fleet Foxes-inspired folk-pop act is filled with rich three-part harmonies, delicately fingerpicked guitar lines, and subtle, tasteful electronics. Mixed by Chris Shaw, who has also worked with Bob Dylan, Wilco, and Nada Surf, Dark Eyes features the singles and festival set staples "Full Circle" and "Call Me in the Afternoon."
