The Very Best of Percy Sledge is an excellent 16-track collection that features his biggest hits from 1966-1994. The disc concentrates on his classic '60s hits, including "When a Man Loves a Woman," "Warm and Tender Love," "It Tears Me Up," "Baby, Help Me," "Out of Left Field," "Cover Me," "Take Time to Know Her," "Sudden Stop" and "I'll Be Your Everything," as well as the alternate version of "When a Man Loves a Woman" where the horns are in tune. While the latter-day tracks didn't need to be included on the collection, the disc remains a concise, affordable summation of Sledge's peak period and is a fine introduction to the legendary R&B vocalist.
