"This is an exceptional album and anyone who thought the great age of the torch singer was over should lend an ear." — The Times of London

"Her songwriting is filled with soft surprise and savvy lyrics..." — SF Chronicle

The 23-year old Philadelphia singer/songwriter Melody Gardot's debut album Worrisome Heart introduced songs of quiet, wistful poetry with sophisticated after-hours arrangements. Yet the follow-up, My One And Only Thrill, released on April 28, 2009, by Verve Records, marks a substantial leap forward.

Three singles were released from the album: "Who Will Comfort Me," "Baby I'm a Fool," and "Your Heart Is As Black As Night." The album received three Grammy Award nominations: Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for the title track (Mendoza), Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (Helik Hadar and Al Schmitt), and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical (Klein).

In a musical landscape ripe with great singers (of which she is one) it is Melody's unique approach to songwriting that sets her apart. Although her songs often sound like jazz, they defy easy categorization. "...a touch of Peggy Lee's poetry, a hint of Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell..."

Melody's tunes already feel like classics, possessed of a timeless quality rare in today's pop music. The one non-original song here is her brilliant take on the Wizard of Oz chestnut "Over the Rainbow." Two songs on this album were co-written with Grammy-Award winner Jesse Harris. This album achieves an air of sophistication due to the talents of producer Larry Klein (Grammy Album of the Year winner for Herbie Hancock's River) and the tasteful orchestrations of Vince Mendoza.

She has a wonderful voice and the music was beautiful this 45 LP is one that will be requested over and over. We are working on a line of reasonable speakers this really shows the natural acoustics of an orchestra and a beautiful voice. I am going back for her other LP's. Quality Recordings are worth the money.

I love the instrumentation of this album. Very dynamic with the vocals very direct and aggressive but smooth at the same time! I wasn't familiar with her work before purchasing this album but I am happy ORG gave this album proper treatment. Sure to be an Audiophile Classic!
