40th anniversary series DVD Audio and CD

Mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters

Bonus tracks included!

New sleeve notes by Robert Fripp and King Crimson biographer Sid Smith

King Crimson achieved the rare feat of marrying their hard-fought, hard-hitting prog sound with the bristling energy of new wave on this 1981 triumph, which nearly cracked the Top 40. The title cut; "Frame by Frame"; "The Sheltering Sky," and the rest of the original LP featuring Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, Tony Levin and Adrian Belew is here on CD in a new stereo mix with bonus alternate mixes. The DVD-Audio disc adds a 5.1 DTS mix, hi-res stereo mix, original album mix, new album mix and even a rough mix from the original sessions. On top of that, you get the 1981 12-inch dance mix of Elephant Talk and other audio extras plus footage of The Old Grey Whistle Test performances, new notes co-written by Fripp and more!

"This record is not so much about skill as it is about transforming the complex into the beautiful. By turns explosive ('Indiscipline'), driving ('Thela Hun Ginjeet'), and quietly meditative ('The Sheltering Sky'), Adrian Belew (whose vocals and lyrics reflect his tenure with the Talking Heads) injects a degree of manic humor to the proceedings. All this technical proficiency would be for nothing if these weren't such wonderfully compelling songs." — Amazon.com

Missed this one in '81 and didnt discover it until approximately 5 years ago when I got this cd/dvd package.Very much in the prog rock vein with an emphasis on syncopated guitar rhythms in the extreme. The 5.1 treatment on the DVD is spot on. Most if not all of these 40th anniversary DVD's feature 5.1 (MLP?) encoding as well as DTS. I have all the studio albums in this format/packaging and they are outstanding. I never owned a KC album back in the days of vinyl except for RED. Was never a big KC fan...until now with the release of these DVD's.

I'm not a big King Crimson fan but I like this album. And this reissue is an Ace! It presents the best of DVD-A sound, with a propulsive bottom end, detailed but un-etched highs, and a robust mid-range. Don't miss it!

If you are a Talking Heads fan, you should also seek out their DVD-A's. Just as good, and with a lot of audio and video extras.
