When it comes to rock 'n roll, nobody does it better than KISS. The band is still going strong 39 years after founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons released their first self-titled album. Now comes their multi-platinum album Destroyer, re-mixed and re-tooled by original producer Bob Ezrin. It's called KISS - Destroyer: Resurrected and features the original intended cover art. There are also rare unreleased recordings included, which were unearthed while Ezrin was working on the new version.

Bob Ezrin did an excellent job at re-mastering. I find this recording of KISS Destroyer to have a bit more bottom end than the previous recordings. You hear other instruments and sound effects in this recording like you haven't in the previous ones. There aren't extra tracks. But what you do find is Bob Ezrin putting back a lot of the original things into this recording. Sonically this album is awesome! The album does have liner notes, which are very interesting and give you the story of how KISS Destroyer Resurrected came about. This album is a little rawer, but still worth getting.

More like "Refreshed" than "Resurrected"...

According to Bob Ezrin, his source for revisiting this album was a digital copy of the original analog tapes. The original sessions were recorded on 16-track, meaning certain instruments and vocals were "paired" and could not be separated out. This was also an issue when the Double Platinum album was being cut; Sean Delaney could do little to remix the Ezrin-produced songs. So the basic tracks on Resurrected are the same as the original album, but with greater clarity, more full bottom end, and a few added "sonic touches" that makes it stand out from the original. It sounds great! Instruments and vocals have more "air" around them and it has a more expansive, "refreshed" sound. Packaging is first rate. The album cover is the original painting offered by Ken Kelly. Inside is a color fold-out of the final Destroyer album cover with album notes by Bob Ezrin. The vinyl is dead quiet and includes the original "Bogart" Casablanca label. All 70's Kiss albums should be refreshed like this!
