Miles Davis Milestones on numbered limited edition Hybrid Mono SACD from Mobile Fidelity presents the 1958 standard with unparalleled sound quality

Masterwork is oft-overlooked link between ‘Round About Midnight and Kind of Blue

In mono for first time — you will not hear a better digital edition

Miles Davis created just one studio album with his original sextet. He made every moment count. Pairing with Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones, the trumpeter not only laid the groundwork for the modalism that immediately followed but tailored a genuine modern-jazz masterwork laden with performances among the most explosive of his distinguished career. Due to its sandwiched position between the more famous ‘Round About Midnight and epochal Kind of Blue, Milestones remains, for too many music lovers, an overlooked classic.

Part of Mobile Fidelity's Miles Davis catalog restoration series, Milestones has been restored to mono for the first time as to expose the record's standing as one of the all-time great jazz efforts. Mastered from the original master tapes, and in mono for the first time ever, this unsurpassed digital edition grants each musician their own space in a well-defined, broadened soundstage. Colors, shapes, and dimensions appear in the manner they do when beheld from behind a studio-control room's window.

Not all Miles Davis music is the same, he reinvented himself many times. I have most of his work and I would put this into the class of buy it for sure. Nice remastering for the SACD. Milestones is covered often by Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, many other jam bands- a boppy happy little number that you probably know. The tunes are all easy to love. The solo's are full of little teases of numbers (Skip to My Lou My Darling, When The Saints Come Marching In) and I love when soloists can work just a hint of old familiar tunes into the solos without giving the full bar of a famous tune.

Just as they describe.

The description of this release above is very appropriate. I read it before purchasing and thought it was the normal hype. I love Miles so I was getting it anyways but I was not prepared for how different this was going to sound from the redbook release. What a difference! MOFI has done a great job with this one. I am still amazed how recordings from the 50's sound so much better than contemporary recordings. This includes many classical recordings. The home systems were not as nice as they can be today but the recording engineers really took pride in their work and it shows here. Any jazz fan will be very please with this.
