Amazingly quiet 200 gram pressing. What can I say this is a classic album that any jazz lover(or newbie for that matter) should own.

I had given up finding a clean copy of this lp without paying a premium price. This is an excellent value on a well made album. I can't recommend this title enough.

It's a shame that Davis's timeless performance is mucked up by stretches of background gunk.

This mastering and pressing is simply superb in every way. First of all, it is very quiet; lead-in noise is non-existent. This edition presents a very full, rich, and organic sound, and there is a relaxed, very natural feeling to the way it presents these extraordinary performances. You hear well into the recording, and often will hear things you might not have heard before, but it is always in proper musical perspective--never hyperdetailed. It just sounds right.

If you haven't heard this landmark recording on LP, you haven't really heard it. And this Classic Records 200g pressing is the best version I've heard.

Usually I love the pressings I get here, but this one is awful--way too much noise, not nearly as good as other copies I have, including a mid-'70s mass-market one that has been played 1,000 times. Maybe it is just my copy, but I'd be careful.

When I first heard this album I had actually ocasionally listened to jazz when I was very young, and a lot of other Miles Davis albums. First was My Funny Valentine in my fathers LP collection. From the radio weekly jazz show I knew about Star People from 1983, a snippet was used for the jingle for the show. I was 15 in 1985 when Miles played the Forum in Copenhagen Oct 28. I taped the whole concert when rebroadcast in the early 90s. That concert put me over, I bought all his 80s albums, then going back in time, after some 20 albums, Kind Of Blue in a used beat up Fontana issue with laminated cover. Today KOB is my preferred MD album, I have it on all medias except for cassette. Different LPs, CD, CD/DVD combo, SACD, MiniDisc, Open Reel 4 track and two track, books. But no cassette. I have a test pressing of the 1997 version, a $77 Six-Eye from eBay and so on... I am happy with all of them. So when the 50th ann. edition came out, what could I do? - I bought it!! -Mikkel

The good first. Wow! What a mastering job from Bernie and company. My speakers dissappeared on Blue in Green. Coltrane's horn never sounded more real and in your room. Midrange sound on this vinyl is simply liquid. Now the bad. Wow again! I have never opened a new, sealed LP with this much dirt and sratches so apparent at first glance. I used a carbon fiber brush and anti static gun and put it on the turntable. Awful is how I would describe the quality of this "Quiex" 200g vinyl. What a dissappointing shame. A superb mastering job turned to crap by poorly pressed product. I actually saw an oily thumbprint right in the middle of Freddie Freeloader upon opening. How does that leave the plant? I am going to try to do a Disc Doctor wash tonight and hope for the best. No more Classic pressing for me.....ever.

The Classic 200g pressing only enhances one's listening pleasure with this album. It's dead silent, and a beautiful reproduction.

Great Album, Iffy Pressing posted on 05/29/2009

The music on the album is with few peers. This album is the Everest of Jazz. Unfortunately, the quality of the pressing and LP sleeve are not what I would have expected. On the first three plays (first and second without using a Nitty Gritty, third after using it), there is a surprising number of pops and clicks for a brand-new LP. Also, there appears to have been absolutely no accommodation in constructing the LP sleeve for the extra-thick 200 gm LP: it is way too tight of a fit when removing or replacing the disc into the sleeve.

This was my first purchase of a Classic 200 gm LP, and now that I have experienced first-hand some of the issues that others have stated about the quality of Classic's 200 gm pressings, I am nervous about purchasing more of them.

The music: six stars. Quality of the Classic version: three stars. Average it out to four stars.

Disappointing posted on 09/18/2009

What a disappointment. Overall sound quality was very nice, but there were many intermittent sound artifacts that were not surface noise, but some kind of recording or mastering flaws. A kind of buzzing/squeaking sound lasting only for a second. Not something that I was expecting after reading all of the good reviews of this reissue.

I have yet to hear anyone reporting similar issues.

My experience with this re-issue is similar to the reviewer's from 09/18/09. The music, of course, sublime. The mastering, in most respects, excellent. The pressing on my copy...terrible. Unacceptable for an audiophile release.

If it were simply the over abundance of surface noise then I would have been disappointed, but perhaps not so non-plussed as to publicly air my sentiments. However this record has defects that appear in the first few minutes of the opening track, the likes of which I've never before encountered on new vinyl. Brief moments of some type of distortion and/or musical dropouts that are distracting and disruptive to one's [my] ability to enjoy this beautiful music.

I've attempted to report my experience to Classic Records via the web-form on their www page [the only method of contact they seem to provide for customers] and have received no response. Once again, very disappointing! I will be guarded and reluctant to make any future Classic Records purchases.

You might have to order a few copies of this pressing before you find a good one. The QC at Classic Records is pretty bad. I have received copies with hand prints on them, already scuffed and littered with noise. Absolutely inexcusable for a record label to allow this kind of crap to happen, especially in the "audiophile" market.

However, if you find a good one...Boy oh boy, prepare to be amazed. I have never heard the 45 RPM pressing, but this one absolutely blows away everything else I've heard. The dynamics, spaciousness, tonality...everything is perfect. The musicians are in the room.

It's a shame that one of the great albums of all time, of any kind of music, has to be so shoddily pressed like this, but if you are lucky enough to get a good copy, never let go. The sound is divine.
