In the fall of 1976 The Marshall Tucker Band went to the UK and Europe for their only tour so far in those territories. The tour featured Bonnie Bramlett and Grinders Switch as support acts. The band was red hot in America and the time was right to spread the word to other countries. Founding member and lead singer Doug Gray remembers "We didn't know what to expect but from the people at the hotel to the crew at the Hammersmith Odeon and finally the sold out crowd all made us feel so welcome we couldn't believe it. It was the same in Scotland with a different accent." When the label and band decided to release the new version of Greatest Hits on vinyl, they had the space to include these three live tracks, recorded in Glasgow, Scotland, and London, England, which have never before been released.

Great Southern Rock, but two classics cut short...

The Marshall Tucker Band was a great Southern Rock Band of the 1970's, and sole surviving member/lead singer Doug Gray still tours. The packaging is good with a band bio and notes from producer Ron Rainey in the gatefold. The vinyl is thick, heavy, and very quiet. Sound quality is excellent. However, they decided to use the radio edit versions for two of their best songs: Heard it in a Love Song and Can't You See, which cuts 2-3 minutes from the album versions. For "Heard It" it's acceptable (barely), but for Can't You See the edit version butchers a Southern Rock masterpiece. At least they left the long version of Take the Highway and several others. The sound quality of the live cuts is great as well. Other than the radio edit versions, a very nice compilation.
