Catch Bull At Four was Cat Stevens' most successful album in the United States, holding the top spot on Billboard's chart for three consecutive weeks. It earned gold-record status immediately.

Catch Bull At Four proves, as one reviewer said, that the Cat had seen darkness, too. Those darker elements were more pronounced on this, Stevens' sixth album, a slightly harder-rocking effort than its predecessor, Teaser and the Firecat.

Released in October 1972, Catch Bull At Four's standout hits include the wistful reverie "Sitting" and the infectious "Can't Keep It In." They also include rambling, mystical odes and romantic imagry such as in "The Boy with a Moon & Star on His Head," "Angelsea," and "Sweet Scarlet."
