Numered Limited-Edition LP

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI

Rod the Mod's definitive album. This timeless feel-good set includes the eternal chart-toppers "Maggie May," and "(Find A) Reason to Believe."

Rod Stewart owned the early 1970s. When he wasn't recording great sets with the Faces, he was redefining how folk, country and soul music could be folded under rock's umbrella. Filled with first-rate originals and terrific interpretations of classics, Every Picture Tells A Story remains Stewart's watershed moment, a brilliant synthesis of organic warmth, earthy tones, raucous romance and loose performances. Those who only know Stewart from his later evolution into a sappy balladeer will be overwhelmed. MoFi Silver Labels’ numbered limited edition LP presents the 1971 smash in the most transparent, warm, and full-range sound the music has ever enjoyed. Stewart’s supremely soulful vocals come on with insouciant passion and joyous persuasion, the detail allowing listeners to hear into his lungs and feel every breath he draws. His equally superb band is presented amid an expanded soundstage that’s free of artificial ceilings and harshness introduced by several digital remastering editions. The explosive sound is akin to watching a fledgling group come into its own in a small club.

Classic Stewart On "Silver"

I can only comment on this release, as the Merc pressing I once owned was worn out long ago. Perhaps its not mastered as "hot" as some other titles - truth be told, I was too busy being drawn into the music to notice. The vinyl is superbly pressed and dead silent. This sounds like an early-70s record, but in all the proper ways; MoFi has revealed subtle details and brought out the warmth of the acoustic guitars without making this iconic title sound at all "modern" - in short, this is about as good as I've heard this record sound (of course, my stereo wasn"t as nice in 1970, either) and is yet another feather in the MoFi "Silver Series" cap. Along with Gasoline Alley, two classic Stewart titles nicely done! Now how about "Never A Dull Moment"?

Not as good as original US red label Mercury.

I agree with the other reviewer that this pressing needs to crank up quite a bit to match the original US or UK hot mastering. However, even with the volume matched, MoFi pressing clearly did not use the original masters and thus fall short of dynamics and detail information of the original US or UK.

First off this is pressed at extreme low levels. By That I mean you have to turn the volume up much more than normal. That I consider to be a flaw. The vinyl is dead silent though, and the tone of the music is spot on, and the mastering is astounding with all the subleties that were once hidden or masked, are now clear without being even slightly bright. Every instrument and voice has its own separate space, and like Mobile Fidelitys recent issue of Little Feats "Waiting For Columbus" This is now the best Ive ever heard this music sound. For the money, Im amazed at how faithfully they reproduced the original tri-fold cover!!! BONUS!!!!
