Without a doubt, Harrison's third solo recording, originally issued as a triple album, is his best. Drawing on his backlog of unused compositions from the late Beatles era, Harrison crafted material that managed the rare feat of conveying spiritual mysticism without sacrificing his gifts for melody and grand, sweeping arrangements. Enhanced by Phil Spector's lush orchestral production, and Harrison's own superb slide guitar, nearly every song is excellent: "Awaiting on You All," "Beware Of Darkness," the Dylan collaboration "I'd Have You Anytime," "Isn't It A Pity" and the hit singles "My Sweet Lord" and "What Is Life" are just a few of the highlights.

I'd Have You Anytime
My Sweet Lord
Wah-Wah
Isn't It a Pity [Version One]
What Is Life
If Not for You
Behind That Locked Door
Let It Down
Run of the Mill
Beware of Darkness
Apple Scruffs
Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)
Awaiting on You All
All Things Must Pass
I Dig Love
Art of Dying
Isn't It a Pity [Version Two]
Hear Me Lord
Out of the Blue
It's Johnny's Birthday
Plug Me In
I Remember Jeep

Disappointing quality control

I agree with other reviewers. It's a shame that this great old album should be remade with such attention to presentation and then have such poor-quality vinyl. If I were rating this set to sell as used, it would be a VG right out of the box ... not even near Mint minus. Many surface abrasions and quite a lot of surface noise ... pops, hiss. I have several of the Dylan box sets, which are flawless and quiet. I have many other 180-gram new issues that also are good. The record jackets on these are rough paper, and I suspect that the records are being damaged in shipment. Either that, or it's very poor quality control in the pressing factory. I have the original 1970 Apple box set and it's in better condition than this one. My Nitty Gritty machine might improve the background noise, but I'm tempted to send these back.

Fantastic Album Poor recording

The music is just wonderful, so many great songs. Such a heart felt album. The issue is the recording, surprisingly bad, no bass and very compressed sounding. Midrange is not to bad, just hard to get passed how compressed sounding it is. Sad, Steve Hoffman we need your magic on this one. Don't know the sound of the original records, but something tells me its the recording from the original master tapes. Hell, I will have to remaster this one myself.

This has always been my favorite "post Beatle" work by any of the Beatles. Unlike the disappointing reissue from a few years ago, in which bonus tracks were added to each side, and the elegant packaging "updated" with garish graphics, this issue retains the original track sequence with no filler, and the package restored to it's original grandeur right down to the red apple labels, textured innersleeves with lyrics in three colored paper stocks, a fold out poster, and of course the box itself, with a stunning black and white photograph of George.

It's good to see the original back. The packaging is exactly the same as I remember it 40 years ago. But I was very surprised at the quality of the recording. I actually hear pops and ticks on the vinyl. Capital did not do a very good job with this. I purchased the Aja (Steely Dan) vinyl album a year ago, and that sounded flawless. Not one pop.
