Byron Janis Plays Moussorgsky - Pictures At An Exhibition A newly discovered master tape from Mercury Living Presence Archives released for the first time! When Byron Janis appeared in recital anywhere in the world, Pictures At An Exhibition was apt to be the high point of his program. He included Pictures in his Paris debut recital and he performed the work extensively on both his tours of Russia in the early sixties. When he finally recorded this great work for Mercury Living Presence in 1961, the recording was put on hold to expedite the program of concerto recordings which helped to create Janis legendary status as one of the premiere pianists of our time. Now for the first time Byron Janis powerful interpretation of this piece is released from the Mercury vaults in all its glory. Make no mistake, this recording has never been released before - not even on LP!!! The release of Janis Picture is likely to capture the market for this mainstay of the pianists repertoire, combining as it does, the technical wizardry of this great American pianist and the full dynamic range and "you are there" sound of Mercury Living Presence. Antal Dorati and the Minneapolis Symphony provide the perfect coupling for the Janis Pictures with their brilliant performance of Ravels orchestration of the same work.
