This timeless gem is performed by L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Ernest Ansermet. This is a performance to be known as "one of the greats." The composition, Three-Cornered Hat, was premiered by Ansermet, and with its lively rhythms, subtle narratives, dynamic development and vivid contrast and tone colors, this version is a masterly performance that none other appears able to exceed. The performance illustrates the ethnic taste that is rich in wild beauty in a truly vivid and dynamic way, while highlighting the lyricism of Falla's music in a sophisticated, uncompromising manner. The solo singing by the young Berganza is also worth a listen.

Part 2: The Neighbor's Dance (Seguidillas)
Part 2: The Miller's Dance (Farruca)

Scott Wilson said everything I was going to say. I'll just add the pressings, by RTI (I believe), were almost perfect. Boy! We're getting spoiled!

i thought i knew the sound of this recording inside and out. Its always been a favorite - I own the original London Mono and Wideband FFSS Stereo LPs, the second and third pressings as well, the 4-Track open reel tape, and the recent Speaker's Corner reissue. I asked a non-audiophile friend to listen to it with me. From the opening fanfare I was speechless. completely swept away, with hair on my neck ad arms standing on end as the music kept triggering waves of pleasure that sent chills throughout my body. I had experienced this on rare occasions, but my friend, who had only experienced digital music and thinks a 7:1 Bose setup is the ultimate in sound quality, was completely blown away. The early Decca stereo recordings are legendary, but trust me, you haven't heard them like this. I immediately subscribed to the entire series and picked up a backup copy of this gem. Only 2500 were pressed so my advice is to secure your copy before they are gone.
