Confusion Is Sex is the debut album from Sonic Youth originally released in 1983 on Glenn Branca's label Neutral Records. Reissued on vinyl for the first time in more than 20 years. Confusion Is Sex remains one of the most important and influential records to emerge from the America No Wave, post punk scene which thrived through the late 1970s and early 1980s in the lower east side of New York with bands like The Contortions, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Mars and DNA. Lee Renaldo and Thurston Moore utilized various experimental techniques while playing and recording this album. Notably and most interestingly perhaps are the "third bridge" techniques which evolved from their time working with Branca and his prepared guitars - Thurston and Lee built a third bridge by sticking screwdrivers between the strings and fret boards of their guitars.
