Dexter Gordon - Dexter Calling

One in a series of strong comeback albums for Blue Note, this true classic features a simple line-up of four undisputed masters who all deliver on their renown. Supporting Gordon's tenor are Kenny Drew, piano, Paul Chambers, bass and Philly Joe Jones, drums. Tight precision mixed with unbridled mirth abound in the interplay, with a lot of credit due the choice of varying tempos and material. From within a career of constant superlatives, it's hard to single such out, but Drew's playing is particularly impressive and sets the bar in support of a single, solo horn date, for pianists.
