Crosby, Stills and Nash - Crosby, Stills & Nash

Finding a common musical spirit in the hills above Hollywood, David Crosby (bounced from the Byrds) and Graham Nash (drawn to So. California from The Hollies) joined with Stephen Stills (after Buffalo Springfield imploded) unleashing three part harmonies and a creative force that was unstoppable. Their first sessions on Atlantic, in 1969, produced the mega hits: Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Marrakesh Express, Helpless Hoping, Wooden Ships and 49 Bye Byes among others. An American classic folk-rock recording for all time, now celebrating it's 30th Anniversary.

Mastered by Bernie Grundman and pressed at Pallas.

One star is too much

OMG, this is a really bad mastering. It sounds like they threw a blanket over the microphone. My crusty, old, party-abused copy sounds much better. For $16 I really only got a pristine new cover as anything useful. The vinyl inside is worthless.

In a word...awful.

No wonder they dropped the price. The sound quality is about the worst I've had in a year and a half of buying audiophile vinyl. Voices and instruments have no presence. The overall sound is muddy. The jacket, however, is very well printed and constructed. If that's important to you, this is a steal.

It's quite odd there are such differing opinions on this reissue. The copy i received from Acoustic Sounds is superbe. The vinyl itself is flat, quiet, centered, nice pressing. The sound quality is incredible. Highs are clean and clear, bass is tight, punchy, and low frequency extension is excellent. A very satisfying sound overall. I have rarely been disappointed in these very high quality Rhino reissues. This one is no exception. Mastered by Bernie Grundman, Pressed in Germany by Pallas. 5 stars. Also buy the Stephen Stills and Graham Nash solo album reissues too, you won't regret it, don't miss out, looks like the David Crosby album is already getting hard to find.

Terrible transfer. Like listening with socks stuffed in your ears. Come on, make an effort.

Nice pressing, terrible master used

I agree with other reviewers that say this record sounds muffled and/or distorted. The only thing missing is tape hiss, and if it were there, I couldn't tell this apart from old 8 track. Again, nice pressing, but a substandard master was used. Compare this to the CD box set masters to hear for yourself. Caveat emptor.

Outstanding in every way! From the first track on side one to the last track on side two dead quite all I could hear was the music. I highly recommend this LP for your collection.

I must have gotten a bad one.

Judging from the positive reviews of the sound, something must have been terribly wrong the the copy I received. It sounded thick and muffled with hardly any highs at all. Bass was muddy too.

I'm not willing to take a chance on another copy of this record. I'll have to content myself with the Gold CD which is slightly thin sounding, but far better than the record I heard.

A steal.

As good as if slightly different from Classic records pressing now out of print. Great value.

The Standard for Reissues!

This is an example of how great reissued vinyl can be. The record is thick and dead quiet. I don't know if the music was remastered or what, but it sounds sublime compared to my 70's version. The packaging is spot on from the original, including the thick textured gatefold cover, the folding lyric sheet, and the Atlantic record label. In fact the classic Atlantic green/white/orange label almost shines it's so bright. Also includes a nice inner sleeve. Packaging is very important to those of us old enough to remember when records were our primary source of music. The look and even feel of our albums back in the day can conjure up great memories and heightens the overall enjoyment of playing records. This reissue is perfect in that regard. And all for only $16. If all reissues were this good for this price, vinyl sales would soar. Thanks AS!
