Quiet Nights ~ Claus Ogerman, arranger (Diana Krall)

"I feel this album's very womanly - like you're lying next to your lover in bed whispering this in their ear." - Diana Krall

Some music is intended to paint a romantic scene - a candlelit dinner, a walk along a moonlit beach. Quiet Nights - Diana Krall's twelfth album - ain't about that. Using Brazil as a musical point of reference, the award-winning pianist and singer is not suggesting a night out; she means to stay in. From Krall's refreshing version of "Where or When," to an utterly soul-stirring rendition of "You're My Thrill," the 10 songs on Quiet Nights are disarming in their intimacy. Even those already familiar with the breathy vocals and rhythmic lilt in Krall's music - and now there are millions - will be taken aback by just how far the music pushes, unabashedly, into the realm of sweet surrender.

1. Where Or When
2. Too Marvelous For Words
3. I've Grown Accustomed To His Face
4. The Boy From Ipanema
5. Walk On By
6. You're My Thrill

Not her best

This is probably my least favorite of her releases up to this point. I'm pretty sure this was pressed at United, which means the vinyl has quite a bit of noise. Buy the more expensive audiophile release if you must have this lp.

Not that good. Songs were mediocre and the first song had a bad sound glitch halfway through that made a horrible noise when being played. I liked her earlier release better.

Not her best, but very good

Nice LP edition and what to buy. Some new directions and arranging here, excellent sonics, and the cover, well, just deserves to be 12" square! Overall, less ambitious than The Girl in the Other Room, which with Elvis Costello as lyricist on many tracks, really took things to a new level. This one out feels more predictable, with less edge, but any fan of Ms. Krall will enjoy it just the same.

With 180g vinyl, and good recording, i would suggest Diana should do more records like this. Well done,
