Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else

 (LP+CD)

One of the best known record dates in the history of modern jazz, the chemistry among Adderley, Miles Davis, Hank Jones, Sam Jones and Art Blakey is amazing. Their reworkings of "Autumn Leaves" and "Love For Sale" are masterpieces. Miles' title tune and Nat Adderley's "One For Daddy-O" are classics.

You get an analog master LP and an RVG CD! What could go wrong? Plenty. I picked up this LP as well as 4 others from this series. To be fair, 3 are ok. This LP and Horace's Silver's "Song for my Father" are not ok. My copy of "Somethin' Else" has a more than a few spots where it sounds like rough vinyl grinding against my stylus. "Song for my Father" is so off center that I can watch my tonearm moving left/right enough to make the pitch change. All 5 LPs had an imprint of the CD that comes in the jacket. I'm not too picky and even I am disappointed with the quality of this series. Write Blue Note, right? They'll stand behind their product, right? I did. No response at all. Stick to Music Matters, Analouge Prod. or older Blue Note reissues. It's too bad. This series could have been special.
