| I love this album and know it well, so I was really looking forward to hearing it on vinyl for the first time. But this version definitely doesn't sound as good as the recent SACD I already had. And yes, I have heard vinyl that sounded better than hi-res digital, a good example of which is Natalie Merchant's excellent recent MFSL 45-rpm vinyl version of Tigerlilly, which outshines the hi-res DVD-Audio version.
This Slowhand release, part of the Back To Black series, looks and feels substantial, but there were pops, ticks, and other surface noise from the first playing. And the playback just didn't have the presence I expected. Kind of sounded muted, liked you're listening underwater.
Before playing, I'd just finished listening to a mint MFSL vinyl copy of Beatles Abbey Road, which was WAY better sounding.
