Best known as the leader of the Music Tapes and for his work on the Neutral Milk Hotel's late '90s indie pop opus, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, Julian Koster has demonstrated a profound interest in the more esoteric corners of American folk music, particularly the Appalachian tradition of bowed saw playing. Though Korner's musical saw work can be heard on numerous Music Tapes releases. The Singing Saw At Christmastime is Korner's first album featuring the instrument exclusively and contains a set of haunting, surprisingly beautiful interpretations of Christmas standards.
