In 1958, Frank Sinatra recorded Frank Sinatra Sings for…Only the Lonely, one of five collections recorded for Capitol, consisting of saloon songs and bluesy ballads, lamenting lost love and heartache. Recorded over three days in Capitol's famous Studio A, Only the Lonely features sumptuous arrangements by Nelson Riddle who co-conducts here with Sinatra's resident concertmaster Felix Slatkin. The result is arguably his greatest ballads album.

1.   Only the Lonely
2.   Angel Eyes
3.   What's New?
4.   It's a Lonesome Old Town
5.   Willow Weep for Me
6.   Goodbye
7.   Blues in the Night
8.   Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry
9.   Ebb Tide
10.   Spring Is Here
11.   Gone With the Wind
12.   One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)

This is a great mono recording, but some of the songs just don't stand up any more. A couple do, but the lyrics on the others aren't up to it, they're just boring. Unless you HAVE to have this album, there are better Frank albums out there ie his swing albums.

not as good experience as other customers

I have bought 2 sealed copies of this album (a superb album, by the way), and both does not sound as good as they could: one have some distorsions when the voice goes high in side one (side two, near perfect), and the other has a few more pops and clicks than reasonable (also in side one). These are my first MOFI records. However, I will hear another titles.

SUPERB ALL THE WAY AROUND!

I was not sure if this LP would rival my near-mint original gray label Capitol pressing or the Gold CD version of this LP by MoFi. I am pleased to say that (to these ears) this is the ultimate presentation of this top-of-the-line Sinatra chestnut. The disc is heavy and plays beautifully and the LP version permits you to hear some minor things not heard on the CD. The gate-fold jacket is a nice touch with all of the artwork and liner notes easily readable. It is well worth the price to have this in your library.

This is exactly what the magic of LP's can be. In terms of production, whisper quite, every nuance comes alive. In terms of the music....it speaks for itself. If I could give more than 5 stars I would

Absolutely Breathtaking!

I've been waiting for a great reissue of this classic Sinatra masterpiece and here it is! You can trash any previous version, because Mobile Fidelity has nailed it. I am just ecstatic over this release, and I think I may need a backup copy, for fear of wearing this one out. The set of songs couldn't have come at a more perfect time in Sinatra's career. His voice was more mature, and his phrasing and interpretation at a peak. Once heard, these are the definitive interpretations of these standards. It is a somber set of songs, and Nelson Riddle's arrangements are flawless. one of my favorite late night listens. Also a great lp to set up your system! Grab this one now, or cry later.

The quality of the recording, mastering and pressing of this album are first rate: Sinatra's voice is absolutely present and rich, the orchestra is appropriately positioned behind Sinatra, and the vinyl itself is very quiet. If you have any appreciation for Sinatra, you can't go wrong with this record.

VIRTUALLY STUNNING!

This all-time classic Sinatra LP has never sounded better. A perfectly flawless pressing, beautiful quality gatefold jacket and liner notes are a joy to behold. It just gets no better than this. This great Sinatra record deserves such a treatment!

Sinatra and Nelson Riddle. You can't go too far wrong. This is a great recording with the perfect balance between the orchestra and Sinatra. His interpretations are classic and the orchestrations stand with the very best. The pressing quality is so great that I just ordered a few more MoFi LPs.
