Reminiscent of the great Kai Winding and J.J. Johnson quintet, two young trombonists Hiroshi Fukumura and Shigeharau Mukai joined hands to form a group for a few months in 1973. This group turned out to be short-lived only because Fukumura was accepted by the New England Conservatory to study music there. Just a couple of weeks after this session, he took a morning flight and left the country to grow and find greater opportunities. The musicians were young: The two trombonists were both 24 years old, and those in the rhythm section ranged from 20 to 25 years old. One cannot stress enough the courage and foresight of the Three Blind Mice producer who had keen ears for new talent and wasted no time in recording them.
