Maggot Brain, from 1971, is Funkadelic's all-out masterpiece. Absolutely no one working in soul and funk at the time had the scope, vision and, let's be honest, sheer lunacy to pull off the kind of record that George Clinton and his collaborators have made here. Eccentric funk jams are bookended by two of the heaviest tracks ("Maggot Brain" and "Wars Of Armageddon") ever committed to tape. The title track and album opener is nothing short of mind-blowing. An essential classic and the deepest album to come out of the Parliament-Funkadelic camp.

I never had the original pressing, so can't compare. This version lacks significant bass and is somewhat veiled and muddy with a constricted soundstage.

Fantastic album and a classic everyone should own. This is my second 4 Men With Beards album (other being Dusty in Memphis) and neither are what I would consider "audiophile" quality pressings. Lots of surface noise on each and tons of marks all over the vinyl.

Good packaging though, but the sound is always the most important aspect. If this is the only pressing you can find, by all means the music makes it worthy of a purchase.
