A Blue Note catalog mainstay from its debut in 1958, this was another early 12 inch originally released as mono only. The phrase all star does not begin to describe this recording collective. Complementing Clark's piano are Art Farmer on trumpet, Jackie McLean handling alto, and a rhythm section consisting of Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones behind the drums.

I have to disagree with the previous poster; IMHO this version sounds MUCH better than the 33 1/3 version. Lower noise floor, tighter, more pronounced bass and pin point imaging. I have a decent system which helps reveal these nuances, but getting up more frequently is a small price to pay to enjoy this pressing!

Okay this is one of my favorite jazz albums of all time. My complaint with this album is that 45 rpm should sound better than 33 1/3 rpm. I mean if I have to get up every ten minutes to switch sides the sound better blow my mind. Unfortunately I can't tell the difference between this and the regular version. Save your money, buy the 33 1/3 rpm version, and enjoy one of the greatest jazz albums ever.
