Tenor-great Dexter Gordon and trumpeter Donald Byrd make for an excellent team on this 1964 hard bop quintet date with pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Niels Pedersen (then only 18) and drummer Art Taylor.

One of the very best Dexter's. Recorded when he was out of the USA with stunning sonics. More HI-FI than any RVG recording with more transparency.

The cuts are long and the sides are hot. The playing does not get any better than this and neither does the music. Do miss it, buy two copies. Sure to be a collectors item.

Beautiful flat silent pressings. ---- Don't miss it!! +++++

First, let me say I always have felt this is underrated by the critics - all three songs are really strong. Donald Byrd makes a solid contribution. "Tanya" is awesome! The pieces are more interesting than Go or Our Man in Paris, which most people rate much higher.

Second, I agree with the reviewers the sound quality on this pressing is outstanding. It may not be in 45 rpm but its really really good! Guaranteed to impress.

This is (of course) a superb record to begin with, perhaps the best of Dexter's 1960s Blue Notes, and this is a great reissue. Very moving. I have a Blue Note "blue label" and it pales in comparison to this reissue. Highest recommendation.

If I had to tell someone what Jazz (bop) sounded like back in the 60’s….this Lp would surely do it. I did not want to flip the album over because “Tanya” (all of side one) just sounded so perfect, but all I could think of is side 2 sounding even better. I was not disappointed at all. The flow of this set leaves you wanting more and more. From the first note to the last note this album incredible!! Mr. Record you have done it again. I am waiting to see Cisco Music top this Jazz album.
