A LEGEND OF ITS OWN

Reviewer: DIMOS Spyridon (Greece)
THE DOORS was a breathtaking introduction, it had a very theatrical atmosphere and Morrison's songs established straightaway his sex and death motifs that became of fundamental importance in the group's image. STRANGE DAYS showed them at their most imaginative, if not at their most powerful. Arguably the band played too many cards too soon. Their third album WAITING FOR THE SUN contained on the inside-sleeve the full libretto of "The Celebration Of The Lizard King", a diffuse narrative poem based on the beliefs of The Shaman, which was given its only musical expression on the album in "Not To Touch The Earth". Though THE SOFT PARADE suffered from lack of direction and a surfeit of pop content, MORRISON HOTEL/HARD ROCK CAFE, a carnival of rude delights, showed the band again in excellent form. L.A.WOMAN was a tour de force, still the most potent kind of rock'n'roll, combined with lyrics that retaind the forcefulness, imagination and bleakness of the band's best work.
