The Notorious Byrd Brothers was originally released on January 3, 1968. It's the Byrds' most interesting album, the songs among the best in the group's catalog. Although the band was in turmoil at this point, the album that emerged was cohesive, consistently challenging and thematically unified. Mobile Fidelity has mastered from the original analog mono master tapes. This edition includes six bonus tracks in stereo, of which Crosby's "Triad" is the standout cut; leaving this off the original album was one of the reasons Crosby left the band. Also interesting is the 10 minutes of hidden studio chatter at the end. The Byrds battling in the studio is rather fierce, but illuminating in regards to their serious problems. While not filled with hits, it's the last time any Byrds album captured the magical alchemy of the band's trademark guitar jangle and emotionally evocative harmonies.

Despite the format ( perhaps you still find the new medium not convenient cos' you didn't want to buy a new player or you're not into home cinema and didn't thik you need five speakers... but ) this new release is enjoyable for the inclusion of the mono mixes ( I just own the stereo on my old worn LP ). Also you can play the first lay on a conventional CD player. I already own all Byrds releases on CD or LP ( in fact I have every CD issued ) and I strongly recommend this one, opening with one of the best drug songs of all times ( perhaps with "Eight Miles High" and "Heroin" as recorded on "Live 69" by the infamous Velvet Underground, the best rock group of all times ). So, for me, buy it ! I know I know I'm a completist but I don't want to analyse each track, I think this is one of the best Byrds releases ( with "Dr Byrds" or better the blue CD " Plays Dylan" ).
