This is the long-anticipated third solo project from guitarist/singer/songwriter David Gilmour, who of course is best known for his historic work with Pink Floyd. We've all been waiting 22 years for another Gilmour solo effort, and On An Island will reward any fan's patience. Gilmour simply wasn't going to release anything until he'd composed another masterpiece. On An Island is a laid-back affair with six of the 10 tunes co-written by Gilmour and his wife, Polly. There are guests galore, including Richard Wright, Georgie Fame, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Jools Holland and many others.

This LP version includes this gatefold jacket and foldout poster.

1.   Castellorizon
2.   On An Island
3.   The Blue
4.   Take a Breath
5.   Red Sky at Night
6.   This Heaven
7.   Then I Close My Eyes
8.   Smile
9.   A Pocketful of Stones
10.   Where We Start

Dave delivers more Floyd

David Gilmour shows again that Floyds sound was his. If you like 'Dark Side of the Moon' you should like this. The heavy vinyl is the way to go, as with all Floyd the depth and layered recordings open up and dance about the room.

Love it!

Classic Gilmour.. classic riffs and sound effects.. love his smooth voice and guitar style. Check out his first solo album (out of print) called 'David Gilmour'. It's also really great. (how about a re-issue?)

I too am a bit dissapointed with the quality of the vinyl.. a bit crackly no matter how clean I get it. Had to play it wet to get a good dub onto CD for my car, and then had to use the de-clicker to finish it off.

But, love the music.

Kinda boring

Look, I love Dave and the Pink Floyd gang. Sometimes there's just too little going on here. I guess I wanted a bit more. It's nice. Just nice. Packaging is cool. Vinyl could have been a bit less crackly for the dough and I don't know about you but I find that even after a good dry clean right out of the sleeve some of these new vinyls sound a bit rough. That coupled with the somewhat boring and "done before" stuff led me to a 2 star rating. Also, I waited a good 4 months to write the review...so it had time to grow on me and I find I just don't play it...Wanted to love it! Like it.

Gilmour! What else can you say? He, himself, is an audiophile!

Beautiful performance, beautiful package. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I think the vinyl recording is very well done, and emphasizes the laidback style of the music.

If this ends up being Gilmour's last solo album it will be a fitting summation of his career, but hopefully it's not.

Disappointed

Expected a much better recording from David Gilmore. I like the music, but I'm terribly disapointed with the vinyl album recording quality. Especially at this price.

Wish this was a SACD with 5.1 mix

Sorry to put this here, but I'm so hoping that Gilmour's camp will consider releasing this with a 5.1 mix on SACD. Since it's release, as a cd, I've listened to it many times and really enjoy the new material. Very cool stuff
