One of the most prominent figures in late 20th century blues, singer/multi-instrumentalist Taj Mahal played an enormous role in revitalizing and preserving traditional acoustic blues. Not content to stay within the realm, Mahal soon broadened his approach, taking a musicologist's interest in a multitude of folk and roots music from around the world. Beautifully remastered from the analog master tapes by Ray Staff at Alchemy Soho.

The Music is Questionable

Pressing was very flat, quiet, and the recorded sound quite good. On side two, when backup singers come in, the tone and placement are very realistic. However, I question the selection of music, arrangments, and instrumentation for the album. Although Taj is obviously gifted as a blues or R&B vocalist, there is not much here in the songs for me to latch unto. Good recording, quiet pressing, talented performer, but not much else.
