Avalon, one of Roxy Music’s best albums, represented the maturation of synth-pop. The arrangements are lush and elegant as opposed to the group’s earlier work. This is a romantic, rich and textured album.

Really Enjoyable

I was never really a RM listener when they were on the charts but picked this up on SACD and really enjoyed it. So much that I found that could listen to it over and over, there just seems to be so much feeling in each note they play and word they sing that I cannot stop listening to it. When I got my turntable working I picked it up on vinyl and it was even more interesting.

a bit more noise than I expected

A nice recording but there was quite a bit of surface noise on the record.

I do not know what have they done here but we compared this copy to a run of the mill street copy on a highly resolving system (Acoustat 3 speakers, Oracle Delphi Mk II with Dynavector 17D3 and Alphason arm, high quality tube amps, etc, etc) and the street copy sounded fuller, more natural and analogue like. This is maybe 180 gr vinyl but to me it is a fraud. Sorry.

do yourself a favor and buy this one

i've always liked brian ferry's style of melody. this recording on vinyl is fantabulous. all the little percussive additions come to life on this pressing, stuff that really makes the cuts intricate within the melody. definitely an album to sit back, grab a sniff of single malt and enjoy auditory bliss.........

KEEPING IN MIND THAT POP MUSIC IS MOSTLY NOT TOO MUCH DEMANDING FROM MUSICIANS LEVEL AND ITS GRACE IS MOSTLY ON CREATIVITY AND STYLE THIS A UNIQUE ALBUM, HARD TO FIND SUCH AN INSPIRATION LIKE THIS AND SUCH A DELIGHTFUL RECORDING. FOR THE ANALOG LOVERS THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RECORDS I HAVE EVER HEARD.

Noy only does Side A represent the pinnacle of the Roxy Music catalogue (my opinion), this is a fine pressing; a good example of why one buys audiophile-quality vinyl in the first place. I kept checking my glass of Pinot to make sure Brian Ferry hadn't been taking sips during the instrumentals - sounded like he was in the room.
