| This is Mancini as Mancini would have it. Most of the arrangements are his, performed by a movie-style orchestra. The recordings are mostly dense, with lots of strings, big brass and lots of bass.
Plas Johnson reprises his Pink Panther solo and there are other great guests like Stevie Wonder on harmonica, Joey Defranchesco, Gary Burton and Tom Scott.
The worry for me, was Monica Mancini. I'd never heard her and was afraid that she wouldn't fit. I was wrong. Monica has a rich voice with great phrasing and intonation. She obviously loves this music and it shows through. She was on just the right amount of cuts for my taste.
This disc is "audiophile quality" but not as an example of simple miking well captured. It's Hollywood-style, with tons of mics, big bass, bright brass, rich strings and tons of little details piled on top of each other.
If you like Mancini, then you'll love this disc.
Oh, by the way, I listen only in two-channel on a high rez system.
