This is a flat-out killer record! Highly recommended. Cole is fabulous, period. She explores a number of styles on this, her second album. Adding pop, blues, country and a French ballad to her standard, low-key jazz, Cole demonstrates that not only does she have impeccable taste, but she has the talent to make all of the material sound convincing. On "Get Out Of Town," pianist Aaron Davis gets up while playing and places one of his hands over the piano string while continuing to play with the other. This damped-string effect is an extremely interesting counterpoint to Cole's idiosyncratic, sexy style. This is an all-time audiophile favorite, now cut from the original master on Bernie Grundman's all-tube cutting system and pressed on 200-gram virgin vinyl.

This is a lovely album but I don't see why it is getting such good reviews. It is pretty standard fare and sadly I have to say that I doubt I would play this album very often. There is much better albeit older material from Nina Simone and Billy Holiday which is in a different league. For high production values go for a "Music on Vinyl" pressing

I have purchased this record a while back and at first didn't pay too much attention to it. After a few months, however, I realized that (provided you turn the volume up a little), this album sounds as good (and maybe better) than a number of 45rpm releases I have bought. Holly Cole's style in this record is very involving, mature, and the sense of swing is very good throughout the album. One of my favourite records these days. Eric

I truly enjoyed the content of the album, but found the recording very harsh; exaggerated sibilance. I wonder whether others had the same observation?

This is great, Sonics are 5x5 music & peformance is 5x5. A smooth sweet listen, Holly and the Trio just get it cooking. I love this LP.

Nice to hear musicians and engineers who are not afraid of space. This is a recording that "breaths". Often used to show off my system.

I don't profess expertise reviewing music but this LP has me listening for hours. Very good sound all working well - the voice a smooth blending instrument meeting the feelings of this well produced set... I am a new fan of Holly Cole .. and of LP's, with albums such as this will keep me coming back for more great analog music.

I own the cd before and I thought it was outstanding. Loved it absolutely. The vinyl is another class all together. The vocals were so natural and the instrumentation nicely spaced out. Just buy it...

I like using Don't Smoke In Bed as a demonstration track for our high end systems here at Goodwin's High End in Massachusetts. The breathy vocal conveys realistic midrange tonal balance, the bass is even up and down the scale on a good system, only the piano sounds a little muted. The vinyl quality is good, if not silent.
