Blue Point Special EVO III Hi

The evolution of the ever-popular Blue Point Special, the EVO III raises the performance bar even higher at this highly competitive price point. Its tonal balance is remarkably smooth, exhibiting a fundamental richness and overall warmth without sacrificing musical detail and resolution. Sound stage focus and channel separation are exemplary, as is the cartridges’ ability to maintain a coherent consistency that reproduces music as a perceptual whole.

High-output moving coil design with 2.5-mV output. Chemically coated aluminum cantilever with 0.3mm x 0.7mm elliptical stylus. Ultra low-resonance open generator design. Resonance controlled mounting system provides the lowest mechanical impedance. Highly compatible with most modern tonearms.

Very nice, but far from durable

The EVO III produces great sound and seems to be a discount buy. However, be forewarned that this cartridge is extremely delicate. In the course of one year I had three of these Sumiko cartridges break (collapsed suspensions, irreparably damaged styluses). How? I really can't say. It seemed no matter how carefully I handled and guarded the cartridge, the minute I looked the other way, the thing was broken. Unfortunately a few friends have had similar experiences. Obviously all cartridges are fragile, but this one is just oh so dainty that you might consider an alternate brand. Acoustic Sounds sells some truly fantastic cartridges!

Very detailed and dynamic, and musical. Nice improvement to my system, and well worth the money.

Well,I was Ortofon phono cartridge user up to 1986. On that old days, a friend of mine told me:" whay dont you get a Sumiko Blue Point and listen to ?".

Feeling a certain kind of distrust, I bought my first Sumiko at a New York City dealer.

Up to date, I have never changed this japanese jewel brand.

Listening the EVO III in my living room, it seems like being in our Colon Theatre enjoying "live" Georg Solti conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Berlioz, Symphony Fantastique.

She sounds warm, and so sweet as many women are... Can I say more...
