RINGMAT is a new method of record support and the first that has been properly designed for the generation of an accurate, low distortion signal. Its unique design enables 12" records to be supported so that the main vibrational modes of record movement - caused by the input of stylus energy - give the minimum possible error signal. This allows for improved tracking and, as a result, a reduction in stylus and record wear.

With RINGMAT, there is a reduction of background noise with a cleaner, crisper and yet more delicate sound, together with a wider and deeper soundstage; there is an enhanced sense of power, with greater weight and authority in the bass.

Available in three thicknesses, RINGMAT is a direct replacement for most felt and rubber mats on leading turntables, as well as most bare platters, including those made of acrylic and glass.

Waste of your money

I cannot recommend this product for these reasons:

1. The cork sometimes sticks to records and the whole ringmat comes off with the record after play.

2. The ringmat is not quite even. When you pay a record on it, he record plays as if it was slightly warped. When the same record is played without the ringmat, there is no warping visible.

3. Because of the above warping effect, sound quality is actually reduced compared to cheaper rubber based record mats.

Spend the money on something else.

If you have a record clamp use it, don't waste your money on this item. I wish I felt differently but I can only speak the truth.

My Rega Planar 3 needed a tune-up and a new Super Elys cartridge. I noticed much greater clarity with the new cartridge. Then the Ringmat was placed on the platter, and I heard even greater clarity. I was sceptical, of course, and like reviewer Richard alarmed at the price. But continued listening has only confirmed the first impression. Bass extension, expanded soundstage - everything claimed in the product description. It is not a gizmo-tweak like green ink on CDs. It really works!

I originally had an Extreme Phono mat, but after seeing the residue it left on my records I went back to the felt mat. After reading the raves about the Ringmat, I decided to part with the $90 to give it a try (I noticed the felt didn't sound as good as the Extreme Phono mat). When I pulled it out of the box, my first thought was "man, am I a sucker". It's a piece of cardboard with cork rings. Looks like about 50 cents worth of materials. I was floored when I put on the first record. The sound stage had increased exponentially, and every note became tighter and more crisp. Unbelievable is all I can say. Hopefully, my $90 went for R&D and not materials. This little piece of cardboard has done more to improve my vinyl sound than another tweak.
