50th Anniversary Edition

Features original peelable banana cover, gatefold jacket, and back cover "torso" photo

Includes insert added for the 50th Anniversary Edition, including a booklet of images and liner notes

Released 50 years ago in March 1967, The Velvet Underground & Nico also referred to as the "The Banana Album" designed by Andy Warhol — also producer of the record — is back on vinyl with the original peelable banana cover, gatefold jacket, and back cover photo. An additional insert has been added for the 50th Anniversary Edition including a booklet of images and liner notes.

The back cover "torso" photo in the original release featured Lou Reed's face superimposed over the torso of Warhol's associate Eric Emerson.

Having appeared on early pressings, the photo was subsequently removed when Emerson threatened legal action. There is also an additional insert featuring vintage images and new liner notes by co-founder John Cale and Richie Unterberger, author of the book "White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day-By-Day."
