Songbird is a specially-sequenced introduction to the music of Eva Cassidy, gathered from Live At Blues Alley, Eva By Heart and The Other Side (a duet album with Chuck Brown). Songbird (certified Gold by the RIAA), runs the gamut from the pop cover of Sting’s “Field’s Of Gold” to a jazz chanteuse rendition of the standard “Autumn Leaves” to the soulful R&B of Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Ready” to her spine-tingling gospel delivery of “Oh, Had I A Golden Thread” to the breathtaking version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”

Mastered from the original analog masters by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray on HQ 180 vinyl LP with superior quality packaging will give audiophiles and Eva Cassidy fans a special way to enjoy this already-classic title.

If you want Eva Cassidy in your collection, go with Live at Blues Alley. None of her studio material approaches the quality of her live shows, which featured more stripped-down, back-to-the-basics arrangements. Now, if only there were an LP version of Blues Alley! (Are you listening, Blix Street?)

I have the cd also-this vinyl is so good it is almost like a different album . This is one of the very best recorded albums in my experience. I very very stongly recommend you buy it at once. I find it absolutely beautifull. The cover printing is first rate and it contains a quality sleeve. The sound, dynamics and air create the sound of Eva in your room.

This woman has an incredible voice and this LP is a great cross section of her limited available work. This is going to be a reference disk for me for sure.

Beautiful voice, yet highs a bit sibilant posted on 01/24/2008

This is my first true introduction to Eva Cassidy. Yes, she truly was special and, unfortunately, no longer with us. Her voice is sweet and caressing, yet packs energy and bite when appropriate. I usually don't listen to gospel-type songs, but how could I not be drawn into the music with that voice.

The reason I didn't rate it a 5-star was that I thought the highs were a bit hot, just like examples I've heard on some of her CDs. I guess it's inherent in the original tapes. Well worth purchasing, though.

I agree with the last reviewer. One of the best pop female vocalists I've ever heard. However, the highs are cut a bit hot, especially in the title cut. Nevertheless--an easy buy recommendation.

This is a very dynamic album. Eva has a big and expressive voice, the music is excellent and the sonics are 5 star. A very enjoyable album that demands many, many listens.
