Featuring · Carey Bell · Mookie Brill · Jimmy D. Lane · Pinetop Perkins · Willie "Big Eyes" Smith · Hubert Sumlin Guitarist and Muddy Waters band alumni Bob Margolin assembled a group of blues legends at Acoustic Sounds’ Blue Heaven Studios for what turned out to be this rollicking and spontaneous jam masterpiece. Joining Margolin is an elite corps that stretches back to the heyday of urban blues and beyond: harpist Carey Bell, who also played with Muddy before launching his own successful solo career; pianist Pinetop Perkins, whose roots are deep in the King Biscuit heyday of the 1930s and as longtime Muddy Waters sideman; drummer Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, a multiple Handy Award winner and Muddy Waters Band veteran who also lends vocals and harp work to this mix; guitarist Hubert Sumlin, who backed Howlin’ Wolf for 25 years and inspired a generation of blues rockers; and bassist Tom “Mookie” Brill, a longtime sideman with Margolin and Bell. APO Records’ Jimmy D. Lane also guests on a live cut recorded in concert at Blue Heaven the night before the recording session began. Margolin and Lane deliver an emotional duet rendition of a song Margolin wrote on his way to the funeral of the great Jimmy Rogers, Lane’s father and one of Margolin’s main influences. This is true traditional blues with audiophile flavor.
