Maria Callas - French Operatic Arias

This recital was recorded at the end of March and the beginning of April 1961, in Salle Wagram, Paris. France’s finest orchestra, that of the French National Radio, was conducted by a young colleague, Georges Pretre, with whom Callas worked extensively at this period. The great producer Walter Legge oversaw the sessions, seeing to it that the highest artistic and technical standards were maintained. Callas was one of the most exciting singers ever to make recordings, and over a wide-ranging program she offers performances which have unique power and magnetism.
