Peteris Vasks' Third Symphony is a one-movement piece of spiritually deep and emotionally compelling music, which promises to build on the success of the Second Symphony (2004 Cannes Classical Disc of the Year Award, in addition to the Orchestral 20th Century Award; ODE 1005-2). Also included on this disc is the Latvian composer's Cello Concerto (1993), a highly personal and moving work that reflects suffering under the Soviet regime and the strength that helped the people of his country to survive. It features soloist Marko Ylönen, who specializes in contemporary repertoire. The Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Scandinavia's foremost symphony orchestras, is led by John Storgårds, who became musical director in August 2006.
This album was mastered using the 2xHD proprietary system. In order to achieve the most accurate reproduction of the original recording we tailor our process specifically for each project, using a selection from our pool of state-of-the-art audiophile components and connectors. The process begins with a transfer to analog from the original DSD master, using cutting edge D/A converters. The analog signal is then sent through a hi-end tube pre-amplifier before being recorded directly in DXD using the dCS905 A/D and the dCS Vivaldi Clock. All connections used in the process are made of OCC silver cable.
DSD and 192kHz/24Bit versions are separately generated, directly from the analog signal.
