Gate plays guitar and violin over swinging charts by Bill Samuel, Stanton Davis, Jr. and other arrangers. The exquisite slow blues “Sometimes I Slip” is a highlight of his career (with a great tenor sax solo by New Orleans legend Alvin “Red” Tyler), while his reworking of Albert Collins’ “Frosty” is irresistible. 1982 Grammy Award winner.
