Fauss, who was described in Vanity Fair as "a cross between Steve Earle and Gram Parsons," recorded these 11 new songs over five months in almost as many cities: Colleyville, Nashville, Dallas and Chicago.

The record finds Fauss trading verses with Old 97's frontman Rhett Miller on "Eighteen Wheels," a rolling barroom ode to long-distance trucking that simultaneously pays tribute to Fauss' myriad influences: Hank, Waylon, Willie, Cash, Dylan and Emmylou. The centerpiece may be Fauss' honest and austere rendition of the beautiful 2013 Phosphorescent track "Song for Zula."

Fauss shines on "Built to Break"

One of the highlights of this album is “Eighteen Wheels,” a seriously excellent country rock tune that features Rhett Miller (from Old 97’s) on vocals, Chris Tuttle shines on piano. I love the energy of this song. With lyrical references to country artists like Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris, and also Bob Dylan, it's road trip track for sure. “I Can’t Make You Happy” also refers to Bob Dylan, specifically “Tangled Up In Blue.”
