Sundazed is proud to present the first-ever reissue of the original mono mix of this landmark double album, recorded in Nashville with Al Kooper, Robbie Robertson and a cadre of top session cats. The result, later described by Dylan as “that thin, wild mercury sound,” is a unique masterwork that sounds as vital today as when first released in 1966. This Sundazed edition is presented on 180-gram vinyl, from the absolute original analog mono masters.

Sounds Better Than Ever

There isn't much to say about this record. It's obviously one of the most influential ever recorded. I will qualify my review by saying that I am only a casual Dylan fan but have heard this album countless times in various vinyl and digital formats. This re-issue sounds great. It's in mono, the way it was intended to be heard. If you are a Dylan fan, get this reissue and you will hear this classic album like you never have before. If you are just trying to find a place to start digging into Dylan's immense (and sometimes, let's face it, um...sort of 'spotty') catalog, there is no finer place to start than this resissue. If you don't like this album, you probably just don't like Bob Dylan.

Refreshing

I am glad to see a company finely accurately reproduce the sound of this historic album. In the "posthumous" mixing room one of the saddest yet easiest methods used is sound compression and "fake" stereo to produce a larger than life sound. This is something the artist may not have intended the listener to experience and is certainly something original listeners did not. Considering the fact Bob Dylan is working in conjunction with Sundazed Records to re-release his catalog on vinyl, I would have to say Dylan prefers the original Mono mix over the many others as the one he would like to represent his art. I give this record 5 stars, it’s bright, clean, and pure analog. If that’s not what you’re looking for, buy the CD

I assume this is an accurate reproduction of the original mono master. It's Ok--it's no disaster, but it is a dull sounding mix compared to the stereo. There's less guitar sound overall, and generally less spaciousness and brightness in the mix. I am often a fan of punchy, bright mono mixes, but this simply isn't one of them.
